Francis Kilvert the famous diarist was born in Hardenhuish Rectory in 1840.
Kilvert was a country parson, serving notably in Clyro, Radnorshire.

For a while he served under his father, Revd. Robert Kilvert, as a curate at St Peter's Church, Langley Burrell, where the memorial illustrated below is to be found.

His diaries, written between 1870 to 1879, describe Victorian England, as seen through the eyes of a country parson.
