| Francis Kilvert the famous diarist was born in Hardenhuish Rectory in 1840. Kilvert was a country parson, serving notably in Clyro, Radnorshire.

| For a while he served under his father, Revd. Robert Kilvert, as a curate at St Peter's Church, Langley Burrell, where the memorial illustrated below is to be found.

| His diaries, written between 1870 to 1879, describe Victorian England, as seen through the eyes of a country parson.
