Anglican Churches

The Church of England is Episcopally led by 108 Bishops, and Synodically governed by the General Synod of the Church of England, which convenes twice yearly.

There are two weekly newspapers dedicated to the Church of England, The Church Times and The Church of England Newspaper,  both of which publish most of their main articles on the web.

Leadership is shared by two Provincial Archbishops - Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury and Dr David Hope, Archbishop of York. The two provinces are divided into 43 Dioceses, each led by a Bishop.

The Diocese of Oxford web site includes a very useful directory, which not only shows a map of the 43 Dioceses, but provides a directory to every Anglican church in Europe!

As representatives of the Established Church, the two Archbishops and 28 of their Bishops have seats in the House of Lords.

Chippenham is in the Diocese of Bristol, which is led by Rt. Revd. Mike Hill, and is subdivided into two Archdeaconeries - Bristol, led by Revd. Tim McClure and Malmesbury, led by Revd Alan Hawker.

Chippenham lies in the Archdeaconry of Malmesbury, which is further divided into four Deaneries - Chippenham, Kingswood and South Gloucestershire, North Wiltshire and Swindon.

Some parishes in the Deanery (St Nicholas Hardenhuish, St Paul's Chippenham, St Peter's Langley Burrell, and St Michael and All Angels Kington St Michael) are led by the North Chippenham Group Ministry team.
